Earlier this offseason there were some rumors that the New Orleans Saints could end up trading veteran defensive end Cam Jordan. He is in the final year of his contract and with how many teams around the league are in need of a pass rusher, his market would have likely been a strong one.
However, if Jordan has his way, he won’t be going anywhere. According to Jordan’s agent Doug Hendrickson, he is looking to finish out his career in New Orleans. In fact, there have already been some discussions about a contract extension to ensure Jordan gets his wish to remain with the only franchise he has known.
Jordan and his camp are hoping that a deal can get done before training camp gets underway later on in the summer. He is seeking at least a two-year deal and has insinuated that this could be his last rodeo.
“If we get a deal done, that’ll be probably the final years of my career here,” Jordan said. “Whatever happens, happens. In terms of how we play, how we want to attack offenses, that’s what I’m here for.”
Ending his career with the Saints seems like the best option for both sides. Jordan wants to be there and he continues to be a productive player, registering 8.5 sacks, 13 tackles for loss and 13 quarterback hits last season.
A first-round pick out of California in the 2011 NFL Draft, Jordan has had a very productive career in New Orleans. He has 115.5 career sacks, picking up at least 7.5 in 11 straight years following his rookie campaign. Double-digit quarterback hits have also been recorded each season following his rookie year.
An eight-time Pro Bowler with three All-Pro nominations, one first-team and a spot on the Hall of Fame All-2010s team is quite a resume for Jordan to possess. There is a chance that his career ends with a stop in Canton, but at the very least, he will have his jersey retired by the franchise and end up in their Hall of Fame.
