The San Francisco 49ers have agreed to sign De’Vondre Campbell to a one-year deal, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL media.

The move comes after the 49ers thought they had a deal done with fellow linebacker Eric Kendricks, but because the signing was not official, Kendricks still had the opportunity to back out.

He did just that, reneging on his agreement with San Francisco and inking a deal with the Dallas Cowboys.

But, San Francisco pivoted and landed Campbell, who played in 11 games and registered 75 tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery with the Green Bay Packers this past season.

Campbell, who played his collegiate football at the University of Minnesota, was originally selected by the Atlanta Falcons in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

He spent the first four years of his career with the Falcons, posting middling results over his first three seasons before finally breaking out in 2019.

That year, Campbell recorded 129 tackles, a couple of sacks, a pair of interceptions, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

He went on to sign with the Arizona Cardinals that ensuing offseason, and in one season with the Cardinals, he tallied 99 tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble.

The 30-year-old then proceeded to join the Packers. He enjoyed the best year of his career in his debut campaign in Green Bay, racking up 146 tackles, two sacks, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and five passes defended. While he did not make the Pro Bowl, he earned a First-Team All-Pro selection.

Since then, injuries have limited Campbell, as he missed a combined 10 games the last two seasons.

Campbell will join an already tough Niners defense. We’ll see if he is able to stay healthy in 2024.
