49ers Labeled Top Landing Spot For Odell Beckham Jr.

Could the San Francisco 49ers end up signing wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. this offseason?

Beckham is getting set to hit free agency next week, and he is far from the bona fide No. 1 wide out that he was during his days with the New York Giants.

That means Beckham could probably be had on a relatively cheap one-year deal, and he would likely be even more amenable on that type of deal with a contender.

Like the 49ers, as Josina Anderson of CBS Sports suggests.

San Francisco has a very good receiving corps led by Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel, and Jauan Jennings has shown potential in the No. 3 role. However, Jennings is also going to become a free agent, so the Niners may need to find a replacement.

Beckham could not only represent a viable substitution, but he could be an upgrade.

Of course, that entirely depends on what version of Beckham shows up.

The Baltimore Ravens signed the 31-year-old to a one-year contract last offseason, but Beckham was a major disappointment with the Ravens, catching just 35 passes for 565 and three touchdowns.

Beckham certainly showed flashes, like in Baltimore’s Week 11 win over the Cincinnati Bengals when he logged four catches for 116 yards.

For the most part, though, Beckham did not live up to expectations for the Ravens, especially considering he was supposed to be the club’s No. 2 option behind Zay Flowers.

On the plus side, he wouldn’t have to be the second guy on the 49ers. He would certainly be the No. 3 receiver behind Aiyuk and Samuel, and with tight end George Kittle in the mix, as well, Beckham would merely be an auxiliary option. That is a role in which he could potentially excel, so long as he is willing to accept it.

One thing is for sure: Odell Beckham Jr. will be one of the more interesting names available on the free-agent market this offseason.
