The San Francisco 49ers hammered the Philadelphia Eagles by a score of 42-19 this past Sunday, and afterward, 49ers offensive lineman Trent Williams took a shot at the Eagles’ fan base.

Williams is very familiar with Philadelphia fans from his days with the Washington Redskins between 2010 and 2018, so he knew exactly what would happen if the 49ers got off to a great start.

“That’s one thing that I vividly remember from my years in Washington is that the crowd, although they are loud and they are hostile, one thing about it is they do turn on the team pretty quick,” Williams said on KNBR this week. “So my message to my guys is just working the noise early, and it’ll be quiet late.”

Sure enough, Williams was right, as the Philly faithful began booing their team after San Francisco took a 14-6 lead into halftime.

“And I was really pleased when we started to hear them, and kind of knew that we was turning it into our home stadium, slowly but surely,” he said.

The Niners then dominated the second half, scoring touchdowns on six straight possessions as Eagles fans began to file out of Lincoln Financial Field.

“And third, fourth quarter comes around, you started to see guys starting to beat the traffic,” Williams added. “So when you go into Philly, that’s the only way to plan. It’s similar to Seattle. You got to be able to work in the noise early, and then you make the plays you’re supposed to make, you take the crowd out of it pretty quick.”

Williams didn’t stop there.

“But Philly, they got a short attention span, and those guys, they only got a few quarters to impress,” he said. “And if they don’t, you’re going to start to hear the boo birds early.”

The 49ers and Eagles could very well meet again come playoff time, and it could be in the City of Brotherly Love yet again. Philadelphia currently holds the No. 1 seed in the NFC at 10-2. Meanwhile, San Francisco is 9-3.
