One of the teams who began their 2024 offseason earlier than they were hoping to was the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks finished the 2023 season with a 9-8 record but it was not enough to enough for them to sneak in the postseason as they did last year, losing out on tiebreakers.

Throughout the season, there were rumors swirling that head coach Pete Carroll could move on from the team. Former players shared that he was no longer getting through to the players in the locker room, making things difficult.

It would seem those reports were true, as the Seahawks released a shocking bombshell on Wednesday afternoon. According to reports, Carroll is going to be out as head coach of the team. Tom Pelissero of NFL Network shared the update on X, formerly Twitter.

While Carroll is leaving the sidelines, he won’t be leaving the Seahawks organization. In a statement released by Jody Allen, chair of the franchise on the team’s official X account, it has been revealed that he will be moving into an advisor role.

NFL News & Rumors: Pete Carroll & Seattle Seahawks Updates

“After thoughtful meetings and consideration for the best interest of the franchise, we have amicably agreed with Pete Carroll that his role with evolve from head coach to remain with the organization as an advisor.

Pete is the winningest coach in Seahawks history, brought the city its first Super Bowl title, and created a tremendous impact over the past 14 years on the field and in the community.

His expertise in leadership and building a championship culture will continue as an integral part of our organization moving forward.

Pete will always be a beloved member of the Seahawks family.” read the statement.

Carroll, who turned 72 in September, was the oldest head coach in the NFL. That title would fall upon Bill Belichick, who replaced Carroll as head coach of the New England Patriots in 2000 and has his future with the organization up in the air as well.

In 2010, Carroll returned to the NFL after a successful stint in college at USC. After going 7-9 in each of his first two seasons on the job, Carroll led the Seahawks to a winning season in nine straight seasons and 11 out of 12 to finish his tenure.

Overall, the team went 137-89-1 in the regular season and 10-9 in the postseason with one Super Bowl victory and two NFC Championships. It will be interesting to see if he gets back on the sidelines at any point in the future.
