The Seattle Seahawks are right in the thick of things in the NFC playoff race. But, their chances of making the postseason have taken a hit in recent weeks as the team is on a three-game losing streak.

With a daunting schedule ahead, as the Seahawks head on the road to face the San Francisco 49ers in Week 14 before hosting the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 15, things are certainly not looking up in Seattle. Especially when you consider how hot some of the other teams vying for a playoff spot, such as the Green Bay Packers and Los Angeles Rams, are.

One of the reasons, at least in the opinions of fans and some analysts, that the 2023 season has been as much of a success for the Seahawks is the performance of Geno Smith. He hasn’t been playing at the same level he did in 2022 when he shocked the football world in his first starting gig since early in his career with the New York Jets.

The quarterback position is one that the Seahawks could look to address this offseason. Despite signing Smith to a three-year deal in free agency this past offseason, it was essentially a one-year deal as there is $0 guaranteed in the final two years of the deal.

NFL News & Rumors: Geno Smith, Justin Fields, Chicago Bears, Seattle Seahawks Updates

Who could Seattle look to bring in as a replacement? If they don’t want to turn to the current backup, Drew Lock, they could explore options around the league. One player NFL insider Matt Lombardo believes would be a good option is Justin Fields of the Chicago Bears.

“Similarly to Tampa Bay, the Seahawks might be a Fields away from legitimately challenging the San Francisco 49ers for NFC West supremacy,” writes Lombardo. “The Seahawks could turn the clock back with Fields and add a quarterback whom the young playmakers on offense can grow and win with well into the future.”

The Bears are in an interesting spot as they could be in a position to add a top-ranked quarterback prospect for the second year in a row. Last year, they traded the No. 1 pick to the Carolina Panthers for a package that included their 2024 first-round pick.

At 1-11, the Panthers are heading toward the No. 1 pick, which will convey to the Bears. If they want to reset the quarterback clock themselves, Fields will be on the move. In that scenario, Lombardo believes the Seahawks are a good option.

Fields, who is in Year 3 of his NFL career, has shown some signs of improvement this season but the Bears haven’t quite taken the step many thought they would. No one would blame them for trading Fields or keeping him, as a strong argument could be made for both.

If they go the trade route, the Seahawks would be a suitor. Fields would elevate the ceiling of the offense long-term and could thrive under a coaching staff that helped Russell Wilson get on a Hall of Fame trajectory.
