The Stanford Cardinal football program has grappled with quarterback challenges in recent years, struggling to fully harness the potential of their talented recruits.

In his debut season as head coach, Troy Taylor managed to secure decent performances from Ashton Daniels and Justin Lamson but was on the hunt for a definitive long-term quarterback solution. His search led him to the 2024 recruiting class, where he successfully lured four-star prospect Elijah Brown.

Now, in the 2025 recruiting class, he’s scored another major victory by securing the commitment of four-star talent Bear Bachmeier.

Bear Bachmeier, the younger sibling of current wide receiver Tiger Bachmeier, made his commitment official on Monday, following hints from team insiders of an impending significant commitment.

Bachmeier’s decision to commit to Stanford came after rejecting offers from prestigious programs like Oregon, Arkansas, Michigan State, Alabama, Colorado, and Michigan, among others.

His skill set aligns seamlessly with Taylor’s offensive strategy, characterized by a powerful arm and exceptional agility on his feet. Over the course of his career, Bachmeier has amassed an impressive record, throwing for 5,500 yards and 47 touchdowns with just 12 interceptions. He has also demonstrated his running prowess, accumulating over 1,200 rushing yards and scoring 25 rushing touchdowns.

Upon his arrival at Palo Alto, Bachmeier will sport the No. 47 jersey, a choice influenced by his “fullback mentality” when it comes to taking off and running. He draws inspiration from Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, whose playing style he believes mirrors his own.

Bachmeier’s talent has been acknowledged by the 247Sports Composite Rankings, where he is ranked as the No. 190 player in the country, the 11th best quarterback, and the 18th best player in California. His commitment elevates Stanford’s 2025 recruiting class, making it the 26th best class in the nation.
