After yet another heartbreaking and brutal finish for the Dallas Cowboys this season, many fans were hoping to see a coaching change. However, it appears that Mike McCarthy will be back for another year. That means that the Cowboys will need to make a big roster move or two to improve and one intriguing defensive free agent to watch could be star cornerback Stephon Gilmore.

Over the last couple of years, the Cowboys have been repeatedly connected to Gilmore. They have needed help in the secondary and Gilmore certainly would have been a welcome addition this season. Instead, he ended up getting traded to the Carolina Panthers ahead of the trade deadline.

Now, heading into the offseason, Gilmore will have his choice of teams in free agency. The Cowboys are certainly a team to keep a close eye on when it comes to his market.

Dean Jones of Cat Crave took some time to look at potential free agency destinations for Gilmore. The Cowboys came in on his list and the reasoning makes total sense.

The Cowboys don’t appear that far away from lifting another Vince Lombardi Trophy. They might even do it this season if everything comes together at just the right time. Signing Gilmore in free agency would give their hopes in 2022 a significant shot in the arm.

Gilmore had a big impact on the Panthers after being acquired from the Patriots. He played in eight games with Carolina and racked up 16 total tackles to go along with two interceptions and two defended passes. While those aren’t huge numbers, he was a lockdown corner and definitely proved he has great football left in the tank.

At 31 years of age, the Cowboys would likely be safe giving Gilmore a two or three-year deal. That would give them a great duo at the cornerback position with Trevon Diggs. Gilmore is a better cover corner while Diggs would be the playmaker.

While the Cowboys certainly make sense as a landing spot for Stephon Gilmore, there are plenty of teams around the league who would love to sign him. Dallas would need to be aggressive from the get-go in order to sign him.

Expect to see the Cowboys try to put together an aggressive offseason. They are not far away from a Super Bowl run and it’s time to go all-in. Signing Gilmore would certainly be one way to do just that.
