Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield recently announced the joyous news that his wife is pregnant with their first child, but before that, Mayfield ran into some trouble with his spouse.

Apparently, Mayfield was so busy looking to buy a puppy that he did not even know his wife was pregnant at first.

“So I was looking around for a puppy, not seeing the ultrasound [photos] and the positive pregnancy test right in front of me,” Mayfield said, via the Buccaneers’ official YouTube account. “So yeah, I was in the doghouse for a little bit on that one.”

Fortunately, it is all water under the bridge now.

“But it was … just complete shock but so blessed obviously,” Mayfield added. “You know that it’s much more to life than just football, so … it’s one of those things we’re extremely happy about.”

But does Mayfield still want a puppy? Seems like it…but his wife may not feel the same way.

“Oh for me, yes,” he said when asked about the possibility of getting another dog. “For Emily, no. Too much running around the house.”

Baker Mayfield has seen a bit of a resurgence this season in his debut campaign with Tampa Bay, throwing for 2,790 yards, 18 touchdowns and eight interceptions while completing 63.6 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 90 through 12 games.

The 28-year-old was originally selected by the Cleveland Browns with the No. 1 overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft and spent his first four seasons with the Browns before splitting time between the Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Rams in 2022.

The Bucs are 5-7 and will battle the Atlanta Falcons in a pivotal NFC South divisional matchup this Sunday.
