Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield is known for wearing his emotions on his sleeve while he is on the field, which results in a rather scrappy style of play from the veteran.
Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht had a rather hilarious way of describing Mayfield’s toughness in a press conference officially announcing the signal-caller’s new contract on Wednesday, saying that Mayfield is a “10 on the prick scale,” via Sara Walsh of NFL Network.
Licht then went on to say that Mayfield is “an offensive lineman in a quarterback’s body.”
Mayfield just re-signed with Tampa Bay on a three-year deal worth up to $115 million.
The 28-year-old joined the Bucs last offseason, and no one knew what to expect. But he went on to revitalize his career, throwing for 4,044 yards, 28 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while completing 64.9 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 94.6.
That came after Mayfield’s career appeared to be on life support in 2022, when he split the campaign between the Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles rams and totaled 10 touchdowns and eight picks.
Most importantly, Mayfield led the Buccaneers to an NFC South division title and guided them to a Wild Card Round playoff win over the Philadelphia Eagles.
Mayfield, who played his collegiate football at the University of Oklahoma, was originally selected by the Cleveland Browns with the No. 1 overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft.
He spent the first four years of his career with the Browns, producing mixed results.
Now, it definitely seems like Baker Mayfield has found a home in Tampa.
