The Tennessee Titans are off to a 2-3 start this season, and to be perfectly honest, it’s surprising their record is as good as it is given the play of quarterback Ryan Tannehill. Could they look to upgrade at the position with a trade for Minnesota Vikings’ star Kirk Cousins?
Tannehill, who was a revelation for the Titans when they initially acquired him back in 2019, has been horrendous through the first quarter of 2023. In five games, he has thrown for 1,052 yards, two touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 63.4 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 75.8.
As a result, Tennessee could very well be in the market for a signal-caller in the lead-up to the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline, and Rit Nanda of Sportskeeda names the Titans as a potential landing spot for Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins.
The Vikings have gotten off to a 1-4 start this season, and to make matters worse, star wide receiver Justin Jefferson just hit the injured reserve list due to a hamstring injury.
Cousins will be a free agent in the offseason, and with Cousins being 35 years old, it stands to reason that Minnesota may elect to let him walk and begin a rebuild.
If that’s the case, the Vikings may want to trade Cousins now in order to recoup some value for him before losing the veteran for nothing in the spring.
The Titans definitely make sense in that scenario, as the club still has some top offensive talent in the form of running back Derrick Henry and wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. Plus, Tennessee plays in a very winnable AFC South and is just one game out of first place in the division.
Should Minnesota put Cousins on the trade block, the Titans could very well be one of the first teams to place a call to the Vikings, as it appears that the novelty of Tannehill has worn off.
