What To Expect From David Johnson In 2020
Let’s be honest, the days of Johnson being among the NFL’s elite running backs are gone. He isn’t going to get back to being a top-five back. However, he absolutely can be an impact player for the Texans.
As he showed last season, Johnson is still a capable dual-threat back. Deshaun Watson the Texans’ offense is losing huge production from Hopkins, which Johnson could help replace. His ability to make plays on screen passes and on under routes makes him dangerous.
From a ground perspective, Johnson can break off big runs anytime he touches the football. Houston will be using Johnson a lot more than he was used by the Cardinals in 2019.
ESPN has released their league-wide projections for the 2020 NFL season. They currently have Johnson projected to carry the ball 231 times for 934 yards and six touchdowns. He is also projected to catch 39 passes for 374 yards and three scores.
We’re going to take those projections to a new level. Johnson will end up with 1,100 yards rushing and eight touchdowns, while also racking up 50 receptions for 500 yards and another five scores.
That kind of production will make the move to trade Hopkins much more respectable. Losing a talent like Hopkins is still brutal, but the Texans aren’t going to be as big of a loser in this move following the 2020 season. Johnson still has plenty of good football left in the tank.
Expect to see Johnson get his career back on track in 2020 and for the Texans to finally have a legitimate threat on the ground to take pressure off of Watson.
