The Texas Longhorns boasted one of the most formidable wide receiver units in college football during the recent season. However, as they set their sights on the 2024 season, they face the challenge of replacing all four of their top pass-catchers who have declared for the NFL Draft.

In total, the Longhorns bid farewell to an impressive haul of statistics, including 217 catches, 3,046 yards, and 19 touchdowns, as Xavier Worthy, Adonai Mitchell, Jordan Whittington, and Ja’Tavion Sanders make their way to the NFL. Even running back Johnathon Brooks, the next highest in catches, is headed to the professional league.

While the departure of these stars might raise concerns, the Longhorns are not leaving their receiving corps devoid of talent.

They have a promising option in Johntay Cook II, who is poised to step up, and they’ve made strategic additions to bolster their ranks. One such addition is the transfer from Houston, Matthew Golden, who brings valuable experience to the table. Furthermore, they have secured the commitment of an incoming five-star receiver, Ryan Wingo, adding a potent weapon to their arsenal.

Nonetheless, head coach Steve Sarkisian remains on the lookout for seasoned talent to reinforce the receiver room, as was evident over the weekend. In a noteworthy development shared on social media, the Longhorns extended an offer to Silas Bolden, a transfer from Oregon State.

According to 247Sports, Silas Bolden, standing at 5-foot-8 and weighing 157 pounds, ranks as the ninth-best available wide receiver in the transfer portal. His previous season at Oregon State showcased a remarkable connection with now-Florida State quarterback DJ Uiagalelei.

Bolden recorded career-high statistics, amassing 54 catches for 746 yards and five receiving touchdowns, with an impressive average of 13.8 yards per catch. Additionally, he contributed two rushing scores and returned a punt for a touchdown, showcasing his versatility.

The pace of developments is swift, as reports from On3 indicate that the Longhorns are set to host Silas Bolden for an official visit during the upcoming weekend. It’s a clear indicator of their interest in securing his talents for the upcoming season.

Silas Bolden’s skills have not gone unnoticed by other programs either. His social media presence reveals offers from esteemed institutions such as Washington, Michigan State, Auburn, Kansas State, and USC.

As the competition heats up for this California native, Texas is making a strong push to bring him into their fold and strengthen their receiving corps for the challenges that lie ahead.
