Five-star wide receiver Ryan Williams decided to decommit from Alabama earlier this month, a choice prompted by the retirement of head coach Nick Saban.

Following his decommitment, Williams promptly reopened his recruitment and arranged four upcoming visits, one of which was originally scheduled with the Texas Longhorns this upcoming weekend.

However, recent reports from On3’s Gerry Hamilton indicate that Williams has changed his plans and will not be making the trip to Texas.

Instead, the standout player from Saraland, Alabama, recently visited his former commitment, Alabama, to meet with the new coaching staff last weekend.

Additionally, he has an upcoming visit planned for Auburn in early February. Williams also took a trip to LSU earlier this month as part of his recruitment process.

It goes without saying that reacquiring Ryan Williams would be a significant achievement for new Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer. Williams, a two-time Alabama Gatorade Player of the Year, delivered an outstanding senior season, amassing 72 receptions for 1,324 yards and an impressive 19 touchdowns. He also contributed 26 more touchdowns to his remarkable high school football career.

This is disappointing news for the Texas Longhorns, but there are other potential targets they could look at in the transfer portal.
