Following the retirement of legendary coach Nick Saban, Alabama’s football team experienced a significant change. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reports that standout wide receiver and future NFL Draft prospect Isaiah Bond is transferring to the University of Texas, a decision heavily influenced by Saban’s departure.

Bond explained his move in terms of a career strategy, likening it to making a smart business decision to enhance his prospects for the NFL Draft.

“Just like the business world, you make the best decision for your company,” Bond told Thamel. “My company right now is my draft stock. I feel like I’m putting myself in a position to increase that and have better draft stock.”

During his sophomore year at Alabama, Bond was a key player, leading the team with 48 catches, accumulating 668 yards and scoring four touchdowns. His most notable moment was a dramatic game-winning touchdown against Auburn.

As a high-profile recruit, Bond was ranked 43rd nationally by 247Sports in 2022. His final appearance for Alabama was marked by four receptions totaling 47 yards in a close Rose Bowl game that ended in a loss to Michigan.

At Texas, Bond will reunite with former Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian, now the head coach of the Longhorns. He expressed enthusiasm for Texas, citing the team’s strong quarterback, offensive line, and the overall package as key factors in his decision.

“I like the whole package that comes with it,” Bond said of Texas. “Great quarterback, they have a great offensive line. “I felt like it was a great spot for me to come to.”

This move comes at a time when Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers, a potential top NFL draft pick, announced his decision to stay with the Longhorns. Bond sees a promising partnership with Ewers, aiming to be a top draft pick himself.

“He’s a great big-time pocket passer quarterback. He’s a top pick in the draft next year,” Bond said of Ewers. “I’m also going to be a top pick. It’s going to be a good duo.”
