Could the Chicago Bears take a swing at Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs this offseason?
Last year, the Bears traded their No. 1 overall pick to the Carolina Panthers in order to land wide out D.J. Moore and some other pieces. One of those pieces was the Panthers’ 2024 first-round draft choice, which ended up being the top selection. That leaves Chicago with two first-rounders, including its own pick at No. 9.
What if the Bears send the No. 9 overall selection to the Bills for Diggs?
That is exactly what Bleacher Report’s Maurice Moton is suggesting.
As terrific as Moore was in 2023, Chicago does not exactly have much depth behind him. Its No. 2 wide receiver this past season was Darnell Mooney, who logged just 31 catches for 414 yards and a touchdown. Mooney will be a free agent this spring, as well.
Clearly, the Bears need to get Moore some help, and Buffalo may be a great place to look.
Diggs had an odd season with the Bills. He posted over 100 receiving yards in five of his first six games this year, but after that, he did not register a single 100-yard performance the rest of the way.
This has fueled speculation that Buffalo could potentially move Diggs in the coming months, and based on the Bills’ miserable salary cap situation, it may be a possibility.
Would Buffalo really say no if Chicago offered up the ninth overall pick in exchange for Diggs?
The Bills have made the playoffs five years in a row, but during that span, they have only made it to the AFC Championship Game once. It seems obvious that they just aren’t good enough to get over the hump, so a soft reset may be the way to go.
Trading Diggs could be a part of that, and nabbing such a high draft pick for a receiver who had a rather poor second half might be too good of an opportunity for the Bills to pass up.
Meanwhile, the Bears would then suddenly have one of the NFL’s most lethal duos in the form of Moore and Stefon Diggs.
