Things have not gone according to plan for Chicago Bears wide receiver Chase Claypool.

When Claypool entered the NFL as a second-round draft pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2020, many were salivating over his potential. At 6-foot-4 and 238 pounds, Claypool possessed a unique blend of size and athleticism that had a large faction of people assuming it wouldn’t take long for him to stamp his name among the best wide receivers in the league.

Well, that has not happened.

After an impressive rookie campaign in which he hauled in 62 receptions for 873 yards and nine touchdowns, Claypool has been steadily regressing. The Steelers gave up on him midway through his third season, trading him to the Chicago Bears.

The Bears were in desperate need of receiving help, so you would think Chicago would have been a natural fit for him. Instead, Claypool logged just 14 catches for 140 yards in seven games with the club in 2022, and through the first two games of this season, he has totaled just three grabs for 36 yards and a score.

Claypool’s contract is up at the end of the year, so there has been speculation that the Bears could look to move him ahead of the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline.

If they do place him on the trade block, the Dallas Cowboys could potentially step in and make something happen.

Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report thinks the Cowboys should take a flier on Claypool, who would provide the team with some depth behind CeeDee Lamb.

Dallas could offer Chicago a sixth-round draft pick in return for his services. It may sound like a rather light offer, but it may very well be all a club will be comfortable giving up for Claypool at this juncture.

Chase Claypool is still just 25 years old, so perhaps there is some untapped potential he could dip into in Dallas.
