This Rams-Patriots Trade Idea Sends Mac Jones To Los Angeles

There seems to be a decent chance that Mac Jones has played his final snap for the New England Patriots. If that ends up being the case, could the Los Angeles Rams try to make a trade for him?

The Rams already have a quarterback in Matthew Stafford. That much is true. However, Stafford turns 36 years old in February and has dealt with some recent injury issues. He probably does not have a whole lot of time left, so Los Angeles may want to start searching for its replacement.

What the Rams could do is swing a trade for Jones, have him learn under Stafford for a little while, and then when Stafford steps away, they could insert Jones.

Jones has spent the first three years of his career with the Patriots and actually got off to a solid start, making the Pro Bowl during his rookie campaign (whether or not it was deserved is was deserved is another question). Since then, however, he has rapidly regressed, to the point where Jones was benched in favor of Bailey Zappe this past season.

Perhaps a change of scenery would do the 25-year-old a whole lot of good?

Los Angeles could trade a 2024 fourth-round draft pick and a seventh-rounder to New England in exchange for Jones. That way, the Pats can at least salvage some value for the former first-round selection before he potentially torpedoes it even more next season.

Right now, it’s pretty clear that Jones is not a starting-caliber quarterback, but that does not mean he cannot be come one again in the right situation.

If anyone can re-mold Jones into a serviceable starter, it’s Rams head coach Sean McVay, and again, having Stafford around to mentor Jones would certainly help.

Los Angeles has long been considered one of the top potential destinations for Mac Jones. We’ll see if that ultimately comes to fruition this offseason.
