This Titans-Raiders Trade Sends Hunter Renfrow To Tennessee

The Tennessee Titans looked like a team that was heading toward a rebuild earlier this offseason. New general manager Ran Carthon was unloading a ton of veterans from the roster, cleaning house as he looks to remake the roster to his vision. When the Titans traded up to pick Will Levis in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, it seemed to cement their rebuild even more.

However, based on how things have gone since the, the Titans look like a team that can compete for a playoff spot in 2023. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill and running back Derrick Henry both remained on the roster and Tennessee won the DeAndre Hopkins sweepstakes.

Keeping those two and signing Hopkins certainly doesn’t signal a rebuild. So, if they have changed course and are looking to make some noise in 2023, adding some more firepower to the offense would make sense.

Before Hopkins signed on, the wide receiver depth chart was arguably the weakest in the NFL. 2022 first-round pick Treylon Burks was atop with Kyle Philips, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine and Chris Moore behind him. Even the greatest quarterbacks of all time would struggle getting much out of that trio.

Even with Hopkins on board and Burks as a high-upside No. 2, it wouldn’t hurt to add another pass catcher to the mix. One player who could pique their interest is Hunter Renfrow of the Las Vegas Raiders, whom Seth Walder of ESPN recently matched with Tennessee for a preseason trade.

Renfrow is someone who looks on the outs in Las Vegas despite signing an extension last year. 2022 was his toughest campaign of his career and a change of scenery could do him some good. All offseason he has been mentioned as a trade candidate and landing in Nashville would be good for him.

What could a trade between the Titans and Raiders look like? Walder suggested Renfrow and a sixth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft head to Tennessee in exchange for a 2024 fourth-round pick heading to Las Vegas.

Turning a player they are ready to move on from into a two-round jump in the draft would be a win for the Raiders. With Jakobi Meyers being signed in free agency and Tre Tucker selected in the draft, Renfrow’s slot skills are certainly redundant.

With the Titans, however, Renfrow would represent a major upgrade on Westbrook-Ikhine and Philips. He would provide Tannehill with three reliable options in the passing game, which was anemic for the majority of the 2022 season.
