The Tennessee Titans are in a state of transition this offseason. The front office is under new management with Ran Carthon coming over from the San Francisco 49ers to become the Titans’ new general manager.

His first order of business was to start clearing the roster of some veteran players to clean up the salary cap. Multiple key contributors from last season’s team were let go as Carthon began remaking the roster in his vision.

From his time with the 49ers, he learned that for a team to have success, they need to be strong in the trenches. So, with his first draft pick as leader of the Titans’ front office, the team selected Northwestern offensive lineman, Peter Skoronski.

Skoronski has made an immediate impression during the offseason practices. Despite no pads being worn and hitting not being allowed, making it tough to evaluate an offensive lineman, it has been easy to see the talent that Skoronski possesses.

One of the most valuable assets that he possesses is versatility. He has already been elevated to the first unit at left guard, getting valuable reps against star defensive tackle, Jonathan Simmons. But, he has also gotten reps at left tackle, showing he is ready for whatever the team throws at him.

“He’s a guy that we think can play any position up front,” Titans offensive line coach Jason Houghtaling said. “He’s continuing to hone in. It doesn’t really matter what the position is. It’s just getting the skill set and trying to perfect his craft.”

The Northwestern product’s future likely resides on the interior of the offensive line. Alas, regardless of where he lines up, he is someone that should find success at the next level.

If he ends up at left guard, he has some big shoes to fill with Nate Davis leaving in free agency, signing with the Chicago Bears. Dennis Daley signed with the Arizona Cardinals as well. Along with those departures, long-time left tackle Taylor Lewan was released and center Ben Jones remains a free agent as well.

The addition of Skoronski is the first in Carthon remaking the offensive line. He has all of the tools to become an excellent player and the Titans are hoping that he is a lynchpin of their offensive line unit for years to come.
