Could Tom Brady join the struggling New York Jets?
During his “Let’s Go!” podcast with co-hosts Larry Fitzgerald and Jim Gray, Brady addressed the topic of the Jets potentially reaching out to him to fill their need at quarterback.
It didn’t take long for the 46-year-old to shoot down the mere suggestion.
“No, no, no next question,” said Brady, per JPA Football. “You already know. I love being with you guys on Mondays and I love what we’ve got going.”
Following a 2022 campaign in which Brady and his Tampa Bay Buccaneers went 8-9 and lost to the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs, the future Hall-of-Famer announced his retirement.
Brady played 23 years in the NFL and is widely regarded as the greatest quarterback to ever step on the gridiron. Brady won seven Super Bowls, six of them coming with the New England Patriots. He won his seventh during his first season with the Buccaneers during the 2020-21 campaign. The all-time great also collected three MVP awards, made 15 trips to the Pro Bowl and earned three First-Team All-Pro selections.
As for the Jets, they entered 2023 with high hopes thanks to the presence of Aaron Rodgers under center. However, Rodgers ended up tearing his Achilles on New York’s first offensive series of Week 1, ending his season. As a result, the Jets have been forced to turn to disappointing young signal-caller Zach Wilson, who looked dreadful in the club’s Week 2 loss to the Cowboys.
Gang Green has been in search for a steady presence at quarterback for decades now, but they have been unable to find a consistent producer at the position. Taking that into consideration, it’s no surprise that they have not made the playoffs since the 2010-11 campaign, representing the longest active playoff drought in the NFL.
The 1-1 Jets will take on Tom Brady’s former Patriots club next Sunday.
