The Dallas Cowboys have bid farewell to a number of familiar faces this offseason, with veteran tackle Tyron Smith being among them. Selected ninth overall in the 2011 NFL Draft, Smith has departed from Dallas after 13 successful seasons, opting to join the New York Jets on a one-year contract.
However, for Cowboys fans, there may still be hope of seeing the 33-year-old return to the fold. In a heartfelt farewell message shared on his Instagram page, Smith hinted at the possibility of a reunion with Dallas in the future.
In his letter addressed to Cowboys Nation on Monday, Smith expressed his gratitude to the fanbase for their unwavering support throughout his tenure. Despite acknowledging the highs and lows of his time with the team, he emphasized his love for being a Cowboy and left the door open for a potential comeback, signing off with the poignant words, “Until we meet again…”
Regardless of whether Smith dons the Cowboys jersey again, his legacy as one of the franchise’s greatest offensive linemen is undeniable. With five All-Pro selections and eight Pro Bowl appearances since 2013, he leaves behind a remarkable tenure, having been the longest-serving player until his departure. Notably, Zack Martin, drafted 16th overall in 2014, now holds the title of the team’s longest-tenured player.
The official Cowboys website prominently featured Smith’s farewell letter, underscoring the mutual respect between the player and the organization. While his departure may sting, it’s evident that Smith’s decision was made in his best interest, a reality acknowledged by the team and fans alike.
Furthermore, there’s anticipation that Smith may sign a one-day deal to retire as a Cowboy when the time comes to hang up his cleats.
Despite the absence of Tyron Smith, optimism remains high for the Cowboys’ future. As free agency progresses into its second week, the team maintains strong Super Bowl 59 odds, currently tied for fifth-best according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
