USC QB Caleb Williams Hints At Future With Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears own the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft next month, and the general consensus is that they will be taking USC quarterback Caleb Williams with the selection.

The fact that the Bears traded Justin Fields this past weekend has all but made it a guarantee.

However, Williams is still attempting to play it coy.

“That’s a good question,” Williams said when asked by Steve Wyche of NFL Network if he fully expects to go to Chicago. “I wouldn’t say my full expectation. Obviously, things can happen, things can change throughout this time. I think it’s around 33 days or so until April 25 and so a lot can change. You take it day by day. And handle and control what you can control.”

It’s not surprising that Williams isn’t making it seem like it’s a sure thing. Perhaps it’s modesty. Or maybe it’s just Williams not wanting to negatively affect the first round of the draft in terms of viewership.

But let’s be honest: we all know the Bears are taking Williams, and even Williams himself slipped up later on in the sitdown with Wyche.

When new Chicago wide receiver Keenan Allen—who attended Williams’ Pro Day workout—was mentioned, Williams kind of, sort of referred to his own self as a Bear.

“Now he’s at the Bears for — like I said, he’s here for a fourth-round pick, which is crazy,” Williams said.

He’s “here” is something you would say when you are playing for—or about to play for—the franchise, so Williams, without realizing it, basically called himself a member of the team.

Of course, this is no big deal. Williams is not going to be infallible in interviews, and everyone knows where the Trojans star is going anyway.

At this point, the only question is who will go No. 2 to to the Washington Commanders.

One thing is for sure: with receivers Allen and D.J. Moore in tow, not to mention tight end Cole Kmet, Caleb Williams already has some fine weapons to throw to in the Windy City.
