Dalvin Cook Lacks Leverage
Having leverage in negotiations and holdouts is the biggest component you want on your side. Cook is a huge part of the Vikings offense but his leverage in this situation isn’t forcing Minnesota’s hand.
Most recently, Le’Veon Bell and Melvin Gordon held out, meanwhile, the Steelers and Chargers continued going about their business as usual and neither of them gave into the player’s demands.
Cook can hold out in hopes that the Vikings will eventually offer up a large payday. But in another sense, why would they? Sure, Cook was dominant last season while rushing for 1,135 yards and 13 touchdowns but 2019 is his only season to show for in a full 16 game workload (including playoffs).
In three seasons in Minnesota, Cook has only played more than 12 games one time in his career. Durability is always a concern at the running back position and Cook hasn’t yet proved he can shake the injury bug without missing an extended period of time.
