Acclimate Justin Jefferson
The next step for this team is actually relatively simple. After trading away Stefon Diggs, the Vikings will lose somebody who has been a part of this offense for what seems like forever. Diggs was traded due to disagreements between him and upper management that were apparently unreconcilable.
Minnesota was able to collect a few draft picks for the star wide receiver and turned their first round pick into wide out Justin Jefferson. In year one, Jefferson might not be able to match Diggs numbers, but in time, he will hopefully fill the gap.
Kirk Cousins will still have his other star receiver in Adam Theilen, but will likely see some struggles without Diggs. That being said, Jefferson’s 111 catches and undefeated national championship season with LSU prove that he can fill this hole.
Taking a step back, the offseason was shortened by a global pandemic and this year’s rookies haven’t had as much time to get acclimated with their respective teams. Jefferson is as talented as any young receiver in this league, but if Minnesota wants to make a playoff push, they’ll need production out of him in year one.
