The Minnesota Vikings have a very big void in their lineup to fill. Their starting quarterback for the last six seasons, Kirk Cousins, opted to leave in free agency, signing a four-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons.

The only quarterbacks currently under contract for the Vikings are Nick Mullens and Jaren Hall. That will change in the coming days, as the team did agree to a contract with Sam Darnold of the San Francisco 49ers.

Something could change in the coming weeks, especially if the Vikings make a move for a quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft. But, one of those three players is likely the starting quarterback for Minnesota in Week 1 of the 2024 season.

That trio will have the benefit of working under a very strong coaching staff and with a great supporting cast. The Vikings have a good offensive line and a very strong group of skill position players led by all-world wide receiver, Justin Jefferson.

Can any of those three quarterbacks take advantage of the environment that has been built in Minnesota? Only time will tell. But, Jefferson would like to see them make another move at quarterback.

One player that Jefferson would like to see his team replace Cousins with is Justin Fields of the Chicago Bears. The Bears have been shopping Fields this offseason but haven’t found an offer they like, as his market isn’t as robust as they thought it would be.

“We have to build on for after Kirk… Having Justin Fields brings a little more pressure to other teams by having a dominant quarterback – like he is,” Jefferson said.

With the price tag for Fields seemingly dropping by the day, maybe the Vikings could take a swing on him as their long-term replacement for Cousins. He is someone that they had internal discussions about making a move for during the 2021 first-round and his contract is affordable for 2024.

If it only requires a Day 3 pick to get a deal done, the Vikings should make a move for Fields. He offers more upside than any of the three quarterbacks currently on the roster and wouldn’t come close to costing as much as it would to move up in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
