The Chicago Bears were one of the teams people were paying close attention to heading into the 2024 NFL offseason. They could change the landscape of the league depending on what they decided to do at the quarterback position.

The Bears own the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, giving them the chance to select USC star quarterback, Caleb Williams. Or, they could opt to hold onto 2021 first-round pick Justin Fields and trade the first pick for a king’s ransom.

Whatever they decide to do, the Bears are going to make a trade one way or another. Recently, it looked as if they would lean toward taking Williams first overall, meaning a trade for Fields would occur.

However, based on recent reports, Chicago isn’t receiving the kind of interest in Fields they were hoping to. During an appearance on ESPN’s First Take this morning, NFL insider Adam Schefter provided a bleak update on his trade market.

NFL News & Rumors: Justin Fields & Chicago Bears Updates

According to Schefter, the teams who are looking into acquiring Fields are viewing him as a backup quarterback. That likely means the offers coming in aren’t very strong, as the Bears aren’t going to get a first-round pick in return for him. A Day 2 pick could even be a stretch at this point.

All of the teams who have been linked to Fields this offseason have already made moves to fill their need at quarterback. The Pittsburgh Steelers signed Russell Wilson for the veteran’s minimum. The Atlanta Falcons signed Kirk Cousins to a massive deal early in free agency and the Las Vegas Raiders brought in Gardner Minshew.

Those three teams were linked to Fields the most and all went in another direction, shrinking the market for the Bears to make a trade. With no starting jobs seemingly open at this time, landing with a team that has an uncertain future at the quarterback position could be his best bet.
