Several big-name players suffered serious injuries during the 2023 NFL season, including Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins. In Week 8 against the Green Bay Packers, Cousins suffered an Achilles injury that would end his season prematurely.
It was something that derailed the Vikings’ season, as they were unable to get on track without their quarterback. Joshua Dobbs, Jaren Hall and Nick Mullens played inconsistently in his place, leading to the team missing the postseason.
It was a devastating injury and one that Cousins didn’t believe at first. He was actually mic’d up for the game and the Vikings recently released some of that video from what happened. Cousins was in denial at first, believing that he had only sprained his ankle.
There is a lot to take away from that video. One of the things that stood out was Cousins remaining engaged in the game, encouraging Hall, a fifth-round rookie, who was about to take the first meaningful snaps of his NFL career.
NFL News & Rumors: Kirk Cousins & Minnesota Vikings Updates
Despite likely being in a ton of pain and slowly accepting the harsh reality of the situation, Cousins was doing what he could to help the Vikings win against a division rival. There is only so much you can do watching a sinking ship, as Aaron Rodgers experienced the same thing with the New York Jets.
It will be interesting to see what the Vikings end up doing with Cousins. He is set to hit free agency in a few weeks and his contract made it so that Minnesota could not use the franchise tag on him.
Will a team be willing to pay him a large amount of money on a multi-year deal, coming off a significant injury at 35 years old? Will there be any sort of discount given to the Vikings, who could certainly use him back with no clear-cut option to replace him on the roster? Those questions will all be answered soon enough as Cousins is one of the more intriguing free agents available this offseason.
