The Minnesota Vikings are a team that a lot of people are keeping an eye on ahead of the NFL trade deadline this afternoon. With the season-ending injury to Kirk Cousins, the Vikings could look to make a splash and bring in an established quarterback to help keep their positive momentum going.
The injury to Cousins couldn’t have come at a worse time as the Vikings are riding a three-game winning streak. They have climbed back to the .500 mark despite star wide receiver Justin Jefferson also being sidelined with an injury.
Three weeks ago, when his injury occurred, it seemed that Minnesota was destined to be sellers. Their season was going nowhere and without their best player, it was hard to imagine things turning around.
But, as we head into Week 9, the Vikings are right in the thick of the playoff picture in the NFC. That has led to a change in their thought process ahead of the deadline as well.
According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, star defensive end Danielle Hunter is not going to be on the move. According to one of his sources, there is ‘Almost no chance” Hunter is traded ahead of the deadline.
Had the Vikings made Hunter available, he would have been one of the biggest names on the trade market. Playing out the 2023 season on an expiring contract, Hunter is leading the NFL with 10.0 sacks and 12 tackles for loss.
He is setting himself up for quite a payday this offseason should he hit the open market. This is the fourth time in five seasons Hunter has recorded double-digit sacks in a season, proving to be one of the premier pass rushers in the NFL.
