The Washington Commanders‘ defense is an unmitigated disaster, to say the least.
The Commanders ranked dead last in both yards allowed and scoring defense this past year, so they obviously need a whole lot of work on that side of the ball this offseason.
Fortunately, Washington has the most cap space in the NFL going into free agency, so it should be able to make some progress toward addressing the issue this spring.
But the Commanders can also make some shrewd trades to bolster their defensive unit.
What about trying to swing a deal for Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams?
Bleacher Report’s NFL Scouting Department pitches the possibility, naming Washington as a team that could potentially be interested in trying to make things work with Adams.
Adams has been a massive disappointment for the Seahawks, and there has been speculation that Seattle could outright release Adams this offseason in order to save $6 million.
However, if there is a chance that the Seahawks can trade him and extract some value for him, they would certainly explore that avenue.
The question is, would anyone be willing to give up anything of value for Adams?
B/R likes the Commanders in this instance, because new linebackers coach Ken Norton Jr. was Adams’ defensive coordinator in Seattle during his last Pro Bowl campaign in 2020.
Perhaps Adams needs a change of scenery to revitalize his once-promising career, and with Washington desperate for help in its secondary, the Commanders could represent a viable landing spot.
Of course, Adams has played in just 10 games the last two years and has not had a fully healthy season since 2018, so it’s entirely possible that the 28-year-old is simply finished.
We’ll see if Washington (or any team, for that matter) makes a last-ditch push to trade for Adams, who has made two Pro Bowls and earned a First-Team All-Pro selection in the past.
