Magic Johnson became part owner of the Washington Commanders this season, and even though he was a professional basketball player, his competitive streak exists no matter what arena he is in.
Johnson was not too happy with his team’s loss to the New York Giants on Sunday afternoon and ripped the Commanders’ offensive output on social media afterward.
Washington’s loss to the Giants was disappointing for multiple reasons.
Yes, the Commanders only scored seven points, as Johnson pointed out, but they also lost to a depleted New York squad that had previously lost its last four games.
Washington always seems to have trouble against Big Blue, as the Giants represent the one NFC East team that has had the club’s number for quite some time now.
However, New York was ripe for the taking in Week 7, especially when the team didn’t log a single point in the second half.
However, the Commanders were unable to take advantage of the opportunity the Giants provided for them, and they ended up losing for the fourth time in five games.
Washington registered just 273 total yards on the day and was penalized 10 times. It also went just 1-for-15 on third downs, and quarterback Sam Howell once again had limited protection, getting sacked six times by a New York squad that entered the contest with just five sacks over its first six games.
The Commanders actually got off to a 2-0 start this season but then proceeded to drop three in a row, with two of those losses coming in blowout fashion.
Washington has made just five postseason appearances since 2000 and has only one won playoff game during that span.
Magic Johnson’s squad will look to get back on track when it heads home to host the Philadelphia Eagles next weekend.
