The Washington Commanders are anticipated to part with either Chase Young or Montez Sweat by the NFL trade deadline, according to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports.

This corroborates with previous rumors that the Commanders had made both of their young pass rushers available, and Jones adds that it will become even more likely that the club will trade one of them if they lose to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

Young has been a major disappointment since Washington took him with the No. 2 overall pick back in 2020.

He actually enjoyed a very impressive rookie campaign, registering 44 tackles and 7.5 sacks en route to a Pro Bowl appearance. However, the following year, Young tore his ACL nine games into the season, and it has been a rough road for the Ohio State product ever since.

Even before Young suffered the knee injury in 2021, he had logged just 1.5 sacks that year, so he was underperforming long before he was knocked out for the season.

The 24-year-old was then limited to just three games in 2022 due to his recovery and other injury issues, and he failed to register a sack all year long.

Young then proceeded to miss the first game of this season due to a stinger, but he returned in Week 2 and has seen a bit of a resurgence, posting 14 tackles and five sacks.

He is slated to be a free agent this offseason.

Meanwhile, Sweat was drafted in the first round the year before Chase Young and has been the much more consistent player. Aside from 2021 when he missed seven games, Sweat has remained healthy and has produced, recording 34.5 sacks through his first 66 contests.

His best season to date came in 2020, when he racked up 45 tackles and nine sacks. He is on pace for an even better year this year, as he has already totaled 27 tackles and 5.5 sacks through seven games.

Montez Sweat is also on track to hit free agency in the spring.
