3. Jordan Love, Utah State
After a great 2018 season as a sophomore, when he threw for over 3,500 yards with 32 touchdowns and just six interceptions, Love topped 3,400 yards through the air but his touchdown-to-interception dropped to 20:17. A thinned supporting cast and a poor offensive line was a factor in the drop-off.
Love addressed his struggles last season at the NFL Combine this week.
“I was trying to do a little too much down there and force the ball downfield, thinking I could make throws into tight windows,” Love said. “Obviously just being in some situations where I could’ve just checked the ball but I was trying to make that play.”
Love is a tantalizing prospect, with size (6-foot-4, 225 pounds), arm strength and mobility that draws unfair comparisons to Patrick Mahomes. He is a in the first round conversation, with the latest mock drafts from CBS Sports’ Chris Trapasso and Bucky Brooks of NFL.com putting him at No. 12 to the Las Vegas Raiders. Plenty of quarterbacks have entered the league off a lackluster senior season (Dan Marino, Matt Ryan), so that isn’t necessarily a huge black mark on Love.
The Packers are more likely to address a more urgent need at No. 30 (wide receiver, defensive tackle, inside linebacker). But if Love falls to them there, it may be hard to turn away from. If Love were to fall to Day 2, a trade up to get him early in the second round could be on the radar.
