1 Crazy Fact For Colts’ Anthony Richardson Not Seen Since 2003

With the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Indianapolis Colts selected Florida quarterback, Anthony Richardson. It was a surprise for many people as reports leading up to the draft were that the Colts were enamored with Kentucky quarterback Will Levis. Those reports were very clearly a smokescreen as Indianapolis landed their guy in Richardson.

New head coach Shane Steichen has to be excited about working with Richardson given his unique blend of size and skills. After seeing what he was able to do as offensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles coaching Jalen Hurts, Colts fans have to be excited about what the future will hold.

While Hurts had some advantages given his skill set, Richardson is a totally different animal. He is essentially the same size as Cam Newton but possesses the athleticism of Lamar Jackson. That is basically what every fan cooks up in create-a-player in a video game, as Richardson is one-of-a-kind.

Just how athletic is he? At the NFL Combine, he accomplished things that have only been accomplished by one other player since 2003. Richardson recorded a 99 athleticism score, which only Robert Griffin III was able to do previously according to Next Gen Stats.

Richardson put up awe-inspiring scores at the Combine and was a must-watch. He recorded a 4.43 40-yard dash, 40 ½ inches on his vertical jump, 10-foot-9-inch broad jump. That 99 athleticism score was well-earned.

Anthony Richardson’s production at Florida was spotty, as he completed only 54.7 percent of his passes for 3,105 yards. He threw only 24 touchdowns compared to 15 interceptions. His rushing ability is special, as he averaged 6.9 yards per carry in his college career.

He is lacking experience as well, appearing in only 22 games with the Gators in three seasons. However, there is no denying the potential that he is overflowing with. If Steichen and his staff can hone and mold that potential, he has a chance to become a very special player at the next level.
