The Cleveland Browns season could have easily spiraled out of control given their issues at quarterback. With Deshaun Watson unable to stay healthy, the team had to turn to multiple backup options. Around the league, we have seen teams fold when having to change to a backup quarterback. But, not the Browns.

They knew a change was needed when they went to Dorian Thompson-Robinson and P.J. Walker. Both struggled mightily, as Thompson-Robinson was adjusting to life as a fifth-round rookie and Walker most recently played in the XFL. Looking for a spark, the team turned to former Super Bowl MVP, Joe Flacco.

Flacco was at home waiting for an opportunity as his phone was quiet all offseason. After the New York Jets didn’t bring him back following the acquisition and subsequent injury to Aaron Rodgers, he wondered if he would ever get a call.

That call eventually came from the Browns, who signed him to the practice squad a little over a month ago and the rest is history. Flacco has been balling out for Cleveland, helping them land a playoff spot with their victory over the Jets on Thursday Night Football to kick off Week 17.

NFL News & Rumors: Joe Flacco & Cleveland Browns Updates

Flacco has been excellent, winning four games in a row. He has completed 60.4 percent of his passes for 1,616 yards and 13 touchdowns. While the eight interceptions are a bit concerning, the Browns will take that will all of the positives he has provided in five games.

Just how impressive has this run been for Flacco? He is leading the NFL in passing yards since taking over as the Browns’ starter. His 13 touchdown passes are also more than some entire franchises have this season.

As shared by Ari Meirov on X, formerly Twitter, Flacco has as many passing touchdowns as the New York Giants and Carolina Panthers have in the 2023 season. He has more than the Pittsburgh Steelers, Tennessee Titans and Jets, who have thrown 12, 12 and 11 respectively.

Given the fact that Flacco was on his couch wrapping up Thanksgiving just a few weeks ago, it is remarkable what he has been able to do in five games with the Browns. With a stellar defense, this is a dangerous team heading into the postseason if Flacco can keep the offense producing at this clip.
