2 Free Agents Linked As Possible Fits For Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has done an excellent job this offseason reloading the team. There were a lot of losses from the coaching staff and roster but Philadelphia looks ready to contend again during the 2023 season.

There will be an adjustment period with new offensive and defensive coordinators under head coach Nick Sirianni, but core pieces are remaining. As long as quarterback Jalen Hurts continues playing at a high level and the defense gets after the quarterback in a similar fashion, they will be just as dangerous this season.

A few new faces will be present in the lineups as the Eagles’ defense was hit hard in free agency. Multiple starters and key rotation pieces moved on, which is expected as teams around the league always want a piece of the successful franchises.

A lot of the holes that were created by free agent defections were filled with solid veteran additions. Roseman also put on another masterclass during the 2023 NFL Draft, filling needs while finding value up and down the draft board.

No glaring hole currently exists on the roster, but some depth additions at a few spots certainly wouldn’t hurt. One area that could use a boost is the secondary, specifically at cornerback. A player mentioned as a possible target is Marcus Peters.

The Eagles were able to bring back Darius Slay and James Bradberry, so they are strong at the top. But, beyond that, things could get shaky. Rookie fourth-round pick Kelee Ringo has immense upside but at only 20 years old could use some experience before being entrusted with a major role. Greedy Williams was also signed in free agency.

Peters would provide the team with a ton of experience and the ability to step into a major role should an injury or something along those lines occur. He had a down 2022 coming off a torn ACL but another year removed from the injury should enable him to get closer to the form we became accustomed to seeing him play at.

The second player to keep an eye on is veteran wide receiver, Jarvis Landry. The Eagles’ wide receiver production last season almost solely came from A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. Tight end Dallas Goedert produced as well, but that was basically the extent of their passing game production.

Philadelphia didn’t select a wide receiver in the 2023 NFL Draft, so an addition in free agency would make a lot of sense with only Olamide Zaccheaus being signed to replace Zac Pascal, who followed Jonathan Gannon to the Arizona Cardinals

Landry would provide Hurts with another consistent option working underneath and intermediate routes over the middle. The best asset he would bring to the Eagles is his work in the running game. He is an excellent blocker and isn’t afraid to mix it up. With Philadelphia being such a run-heavy team, Landry would be an excellent fit.
