2 huge reasons the Vikings cannot afford to let Everson Griffen walk in free agency

Griffen Hasn’t Shown any Signs of Slowing Down

Despite the fact that Griffen will be 33-years-old heading into 2020, his production has not diminished one bit. This past season, Griffen racked up eight sacks and earned his fourth Pro Browl nod in five years.

He’s totaled at least eight sacks in five out of his last six seasons, proving that he’s a consistent force off the edge. While players like Hunter and Odenigbo have displayed their pass rushing ability in recent years, neither have showcased the kind of consistency that we’ve seen out of Griffen.

Not to mention, having three solid pass rushers in Griffen, Hunter and Odenigbo will only help prolong Griffen’s career. If he’s able to cut down his percentage of snaps by allowing Hunter and Odenigbo to play on running downs, Griffen could be the best situational pass rusher in football.

If coach Zimmer wants to keep his defense at the top of the NFL, re-signing Griffen will play a huge role in that.
