4. Hunter Henry
There was so much to love about the Cardinals offense last season. However, one glaring flaw was the lack of production from the tight end position. The quartet — no, that wasn’t a misprint — of Charles Clay, Maxx Williams, Darrell Daniels and Dan Arnold combined to log 40 receptions for 545 yards and four scores. It goes without saying that there were several players on other teams around the NFL who posted better numbers than that egregious total.
Arizona chose against re-signing Clay in free agency, setting up the largely unproven Williams to assume the starting role. As promising as the potential of the team’s wide receiving corps is, the consistency out of the tight end position would add a whole new dynamic and balance to the offense.
This is why the Cardinals should look to sign Hunter Henry once he hits the open market next March. The 25-year-old does have a concerning injury history, but there’s no denying that he’s one of the league’s most talented tight ends. As evidenced by his career-high 652 receiving yards in 2019, Henry was never a major component of the Chargers offense, but his presence and threat in the red zone is an invaluable luxury in today’s game.
The Chargers are probably keen on re-signing their former second-round pick, but Arizona would be smart to give them a run for their money in the sweepstakes. The addition of a lethal tight end could take the Cardinals offense to new heights and would give Murray a needed ( and reliable) security blanket.
