The Dallas Cowboys snagged a first round steal when they landed Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons in the 2021 NFL Draft and they could see instant satisfaction from their brand new linebacker. Parsons, if it weren’t for his off the field issues, would have been a top five pick in this year’s draft, but the Cowboys, who typically show little to no regard to off the field concerns, were able to snag Parsons with their 12th overall pick.
Over the last couple of years, the Cowboys desperately needed more help on the defensive side of the football. Parsons will add a ton of playmaking potential and will improve the linebacker position dramatically. They also made some moves to improve their secondary throughout the NFL Draft.
Parsons will be used early, so let’s dive into what his rookie season could look like based off our predictions.
3. Over 100 Tackles As A Rookie
My first prediction for Micah Parsons is that he will rack up over 100 tackles in his rookie season. Parsons is going to step into a starting role from the moment he steps on the field in Dallas, and rightfully so.
Parsons is going to dominate the NFL level just like he did at Penn State and he should make a pretty flawless transition to the Dallas defense. In two years at Penn State, Parsons tallied 191 tackles, so making a transition to a 17-game schedule and ample opportunities to shine should make the 100 tackle possibility an option.
2. He Will Win The Defensive Rookie of the Year Award
My second prediction for new Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons is that he will win the Defensive Rookie of the Year Award following the season. Parsons has a once in a decade type of play style and he is one of the most fundamentally sound players to ever enter the NFL through the draft.
Parsons is perceived by many to be the favorite to win the Defensive Rookie of the Year award, and I happen to agree. If Parsons plays well, he could have some hardware in his home following his first NFL season.
1. Parsons Will Be Voted Into The Pro Bowl
My final prediction for Parsons is that he will be voted into the 2021 Pro Bowl. It’s not all that often you see rookie players get nominated into the Pro Bowl, especially not rookie linebackers, but Parsons is truly a different breed.
If Parsons is able to make a smooth transition to the NFL like he’s expected to, we could very well see an early string of success for the physical linebacker. Dallas will be thrilled about their new rookie after just one year.
