Commanders May Not Select Jayden Daniels At No. 2 After All

Jayden Daniels, Washington Commanders

Recently, momentum had been building toward the Washington Commanders selecting LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels with the No. 2 overall pick in the NFL Draft.

But Daniels to Washington may not be such a sure thing.

DK Sportsbook now has Daniels at -125 odds to be taken by the Commanders in spite of him having been at -225 just two days ago. Meanwhile, North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye has climbed to +100.

A couple of months ago, Maye was considered by many to be the second-best quarterback in this draft class, and earlier in the season, there was even some debate as to whether or not he could go before Caleb Williams, who will almost definitely be selected by the Chicago Bears No. 1 overall.

But over the last several weeks, Daniels’ stock has risen while Maye’s has fallen, with some even pointing out mechanical issues with Maye.

Now, with the draft less than a week away, it appears that the odds could be shifting back in Maye’s favor. Or they are at least becoming more favorable for him.

What we do know is that Washington will almost certainly be taking a quarterback. The fact that it traded Sam Howell to the Seattle Seahawks last month indicated that the Commanders were clearing the way to select a signal-caller at No. 2.

The question is, which quarterback will they take?

It’s probably between Daniels and Maye. The chances of Washington taking Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy seem slim to none barring a dramatic change in circumstances over the next six days.

Some felt that the Commanders had already made their decision and would be taking Daniels, but Maye could be making a last-minute run.
