3 ideal targets for the Detroit Lions at No. 35 in the NFL Draft

Neville Gallimore, DL, Oklahoma

If the Lions are seeking to improve their interior defensive line, a prospect they should strongly consider is Neville Gallimore from Oklahoma. He proved to be a disruptive force for the Sooners and will look to bring that same impact at the NFL level.

Lance Zierlein of NFL.com pointed that while Gallimore plays with unrelenting energy, his bad habit of playing too tall may limit his potential. If this is something that causes him to fall, the Lions could capitalize and be patient in the process of his development.

Flash talent whose tape has moments but fails to fully deliver. Gallimore goes hard from snap to whistle with secondary effort that brings decent production, but his NFL potential may be limited by a lack of leverage and contact balance. Oklahoma had him playing in the gaps but he might be more effective improving his hands and learning to two-gap. Unless he turns the flashes into a finished product, his future may be as a rotation tackle in an even front.

Gallimore stands at 6’2″ and weighs 304 lbs with 32 3/4″ arms and 9 5/8″ hands. At the NFL Scouting Combine, he recorded a 4.79 40-yard dash, 7.97 3-cone drill, a 5.01 20-yard shuttle, and 23 reps on the bench press. He has all off the physical tools a team should want in an interior defensive lineman.

While it sounds like Gallimore needs some work from an NFL coaching staff to improve his deficiencies, the potential he has if that occurs could be impressive. There is a possibility he won’t be available by the time Detroit is on the clock with this selection, but he’s certainly a prospect to watch if he falls a bit.
