3 Players Named Possible 49ers’ Trade Targets Before Deadline

The San Francisco 49ers are 5-1 and, by all accounts, look like the best team in the NFL over the first quarter of the season. However, improving is always an option.

Grant Cohn of Fan Nation lists three players the 49ers could look to add between now and the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline: Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II, Carolina Panthers edge rusher Brian Burns, and New York Giants cornerback Adoree Jackson.

The Broncos are just 1-5 and are expected to be active in trade talks over the next several weeks, so they may certainly be a great place to look.

Surtain is the biggest name on the list that Cohn developed, and while Denver would probably prefer not to trade him, it’s at least worth speculating on the possibility.

The 23-year-old is one of the best cornerbacks in football and is not scheduled to hit the free-agent market until 2026, so he has a ton of value right now.

Through the first six games of the season, he has logged 25 tackles and six passes defended. Last year, Surtain earned a trip to the Pro Bowl as well as a First-Team All-Pro selection after registering 60 tackles, two interceptions, a forced fumble and 10 passes defended.

Burns may very well be the best pass rusher who could potentially be available, as he has already posted 20 tackles and four sacks this season and is coming off of a 2022 campaign in which he racked up 63 tackles and 12.5 sacks. He will be a free agent at the end of the season, so the Panthers may look to move him now to recoup some value for him.

Then you have Jackson, who is playing for a 1-5 Giants team that could certainly look to sell off some pieces in the coming weeks. Jackson definitely wouldn’t be the blockbuster acquisition that Surtain would be, but he is a steady contributor and would absolutely be of assistance to the Niners’ secondary.
