3. Big Ben Simply Isn’t Getting Any Younger
As we already touched on, Ben Roethlisberger is playing the final chapter of his career. There is no guarantee that he will even be good enough to start the entire 2020 season. Of course, we all want that to be the case, but the Steelers cannot go all-in on that hope.
Signing a 26-year-old quarterback like Winston would give them a ton of security. If Roethlisberger struggles, he could even find himself starting at some point this season.
Pittsburgh needs to plan for the future. Mason Rudolph and Devlin Hodges proved last season that they are not the long-term answer at quarterback for the Steelers. Winston would give them a much more likely option if his price tag comes down enough.
