4 intriguing landing spots for Will Fuller in NFL free agency

Will Fuller, who spent the 2020 season with the Houston Texans, is slated to hit the free agent market this offseason. Fuller, 26, isn’t likely going to be retained by the Texans as they seem to be a bit of dumpster fire under their brand new coaching staff.

Fuller has spent his entire career as a member of the Texans and will hit the free agent market for the first time in his five-year career. He came into the league as a first-round pick out of the University of Notre Dame and has made his mark as one of the best deep threat receivers in the NFL.

He uses his excellent speed and hands to toast opponents down the field and he did the same thing in 2020 before serving a season-ending suspension. Fuller, in 2020, hauled in 53 receptions, 879 receiving yards, averaged 16.6 yards per reception, and scored eight touchdowns. All of those marks were career highs for the 26-year-old.

There is no doubt he will have a hot market in free agency this season and could cash in with a new team. Here’s a look at four solid fits for the fifth year wide receiver.

Green Bay Packers

Shocker! The Green Bay Packers are the first team mentioned in terms of going after a free agent wide receiver in the 2021 NFL offseason. In all seriousness, the Packers really do need to get Aaron Rodgers some more help in his receiving corps.

Rodgers hasn’t had a dominant receiving corps since Donald Driver, Randall Cobb, and Jordy Nelson were all catching passes from Rodgers several years ago. The Packers have some great depth on the roster in Allen Lazard, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and Devin Funchess, but adding a dominant number two receiver to pair alongside Davante Adams will be crucial to the Packers’ success in 2021.

Everyone thought the Packers were going to select a wide receiver in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, but they opted to select quarterback Jordan Love instead. If the Packers brought in Will Fuller this offseason, you can consider them a favorite to make the Super Bowl in 2021.

Indianapolis Colts

The Indianapolis Colts need to beef up their receiving corps as both TY Hilton and Zach Pascal are set to hit free agency, leaving just Michael Pittman Jr. left to carry the load should they leave. Pittman is a talented young receiver, but adding a player next to him with blazing speed like Will Fuller would take the top off defenses.

The Colts have several needs to address this offseason now that Philip Rivers has announced his retirement, but they can’t forget about addressing the wide receiver room. The Colts have the third most cap space in the NFL as it currently stands and they could use that to attempt to pry Fuller away from other contending teams.

They don’t really have a wide receiver that can blow the top off a defense, but Fuller could bring that to the Colts. Signing Fuller as a complimentary piece to the offense should be considered more of a priority than a luxury in Indianapolis.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles have a very interesting roster as it currently stands, and they have a lot of questions they need answers to. They could be trading their quarterback, Carson Wentz, to a different team very soon following the emergence of Jalen Hurts in his rookie season.

Adding Will Fuller to the mix at wide receiver would certainly protect the investment the Eagles are making in Hurts. Fuller would also mesh well with the new coaching staff the Eagles have in place, although he has no ties to new Eagles’ coach Nick Sirianni.

The Eagles need a consistent presence who can take the top off defenses, and Fuller could be that guy. Fuller was born and raised in Philadelphia and he could opt to take his talents back to his hometown team.

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars enter the 2021 NFL offseason with the number one pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, a brand new coaching staff, and a lot of money to spend. The Jags will without a doubt draft Trevor Lawrence with their top pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, but they will need to add some receiving pieces to protect their investment in him.

One of the pieces they should consider bringing in is Will Fuller. Fuller can be the deep threat for the Jaguars while Laviska Shenault works on his development. Lawrence has the insane arm strength to get him the ball and the two could form a crazy good duo.

If the Jaguars want to spend their money this offseason, they should consider enhancing the receiver position. Fuller could be snagged at a bit of a bargain and he could have the most upside out of every available receiver in the 2021 free agent class.
