4 major questions for the Dallas Cowboys following Week 1 loss to Rams

Play Calling

The Cowboys had the No. 1 ranked total offense last season. That’s not the concern. In the Jason Garrett era the Cowboys were very predictable. Running on first down was their claim to fame regardless of position on the field.

When the Cowboys faced the Rams, their new regime lead by new head coach Mike McCarthy seemed very similar. There’s no issue with running the ball on first down, but the chunks of yards have to be greater.

The Cowboys went ahead and drafted wide receiver CeeDee Lamb to help the passing game. Quarterback Dak Prescott had unbelievable numbers last season and Cowboys nation were ready to see him sling it all over the field in Week 1. This was not the case.

Offensive coordinator Kellen Moore is in fact a “left over” from the Jason Garrett coaching regime. How fast does McCarthy pull the plug on him calling the plays? In McCarthy’s past it’s been no secret he liked to have heavy influence on the offensive attack. Is Moore’s leash short? We will find out when they host the Falcons in Week 2.
