2. The Jets’ Run Defense was Pitiful
After moving on from All-Pro safety Jamal Adams in the offseason, Jets defensive coordinator Gregg Williams sure had a lot to say. Now, his defense isn’t looking too hot and have failed even in areas where they take pride in executing successfully.
The Jets are supposed to be a run stopping defense and they allowed the 49ers to rack up 182 yards rushing in this matchup. In fact, San Francisco achieved slightly more yardage in the ground game than they did from their passing offense.
It wasn’t even the fact that New York gave up so many rushing yards that made it so bad. It was the embarrassing manner in which they allowed the 49ers to run down their throats. Between Raheem Mostert running for an 80-yard touchdown and Jerick McKinnon pulling off a 55-yard run, the Jets’ run defense was simply inexcusable.
The Jets simply are not going to win many games this season if their defense fails to produce. The offense simply lacks the personnel to make much of an impact and if the defense fails, too…then it soon may be time to start watching Trevor Lawrence game tape.
