3. Raheem Mostert is Special
Many like to discount the value of the running back position, but that’s simply unfair. There are some talents that can change a game with their ability to make big plays in the open field. Raheem Mostert is one of those running backs for the 49ers.
There are only so many players that are capable of bouncing to the outside and pulling off an 80-yard while reaching a top speed in excess of 23.0 MPH on the run — Mostert is one of them. The 49ers got off to a 7-0 lead thanks to Mostert’s run and built substantial momentum.
It’s incredible to think that on just eight carries, Mostert managed to provide the 49ers’ offense with 92 yards and one touchdown run. He did so before having to leave the game quite early due to a knee sprain.
The depth the 49ers have at running back can overshadow the individual excellence each talent provides at times. Jerick McKinnon pulled off a 55-yard run on 3rd & Forever after Mostert was ruled out and finished with 77 yards rushing on just three carries.
