2. Cam Newton’s Absence Was Felt

With the way the start of the Patriots’ season has played out, it almost seems comical that at one point, there were questions regarding whether Cam Newton would land the starting quarterback job.

Perhaps no greater indicator of Newton’s importance to the Patriots’ offense was his absence against the Chiefs.

The Patriots began this game with Brian Hoyer at quarterback and finished with Jarrett Stidham. Both players combined for just 192 yards, one touchdown, three interceptions (one pick-six), and one lost fumble.

There was simply not much the Patriots could accomplish in the passing game against the Chiefs with Hoyer and Stidham. New England must be counting down the days until Newton is back.
