Pittsburgh Steelers
The results the Pittsburgh Steelers achieved defensively during the 2019 season was truly impressive and carried them to an 8-8 record. However, they are still chasing the Baltimore Ravens in their efforts of reclaiming their prominence in the AFC North even with the return of Ben Roethlisberger.
In an effort to clear salary-cap space, the Steelers had to clear some of their linebacker depth behind key starters. Among the cap casualties was Anthony Chickillo at outside linebacker and that’s where the idea of a Clay Matthews signing would come into play.
Pittsburgh already has Ola Adeniyi and Tuzar Skipper on the edge as reliable depth but adding at least another veteran into the mix like Matthews would make sense. It would help insulate them from the potential impact of an injury to someone like T.J. Watt or Bud Dupree.
It never hurts for a team to add more pass rushers that can be brought in to play in a rotational capacity. That’s especially the case when evaluating the possibility from the perspective of an organization that plays in the same division as Lamar Jackson.
