Seattle Seahawks
With Jadeveon Clowney still being unsigned by a team, the Seahawks should look to get creative with how they can produce a reliable pass rush. It would need to come from a ‘by committee’ approach and signing a veteran role player like Clay Matthews would help.
Earlier in the offseason, the Seahawks made a few moves to help their pass rush. They ended up signing Bruce Irvin in addition to re-signing Jarran Reed, but while those are solid moves, they could certainly use more. That’s where bringing in someone like Matthews.
There aren’t many options remaining to add pass rush outside of a few veterans that have yet to be signed. The potential backup plans for Clowney could end up drying up if a player like Everson Griffen were to sign with a team in the relative near future.
There is also already a connection between Matthews and the Seahawks’ coaching staff as he played for head coach Pete Carroll at USC. That type of familiarity could help separate Seattle from other teams if they were interested in signing the veteran linebacker.
